Damascus Steel Hunting Knife
Damascus Steel Hunting Knife after reading up on this steel it can make a great hunting knife. What my thoughts are on the Damascus steel skinning knife is, for the price charged on Amazon it’s a real deal. What I would watch for is if the knife is just an cheap imitation or a quality blade. From what I read on the reviews some of the knives are looking like a good deal even if the steel is just the VG-10 stainless.

I do not really know if the steel is really forged Damascus steel, but if it is just stainless VG-10 Steel. This steel from Japan is about a good as a steel can get. My hunting experience in using hunting knives I have found the blade length of four to six inches to be lots.
It gets heavy to pack more steel and is not needed when hunting or skinning big game in the field. Finding this blade length out took time, and this experience serves me well. In most cases a shorter handle knife will be better for field dressing deer and small game.

The main reason is safety it is easier to hold and work a short blade when your hands get slippery with blood. Field dressing is not fun or pleasant if you slip with a blade and cut the intestine the smell can make you loose your lunch in a hurry. this is a sure sign of a novice, or rookie hunter in most cases.
I read a lot into the Damascus steel and how it was made in the eighteen hundreds. It was one of the rare finds in nature, in forging steel that made the blade so strong and durable. The forging took many years to duplicate and it was very easy to do. At times a lot of work was done just to have failure. The original process is said to be dependent on some of the products found only in the area where the steel was made.
